Currently (or: the return of a comforting routine)

Drinking.. this week, I’ve rediscovered my love for turmeric tea – when I start my day with this inflammation-fighter, I can really tell a difference in my overall health. It makes me wonder why I ever stopped drinking it. Except, I know why, haha: it was a combination of laziness, getting tired of the same thing every day, and it being too hot for hot tea during the summer. Now that it’s cold outside and my tastebuds have come back around, I’m enjoying the return of this comforting routine.

Listening to.. a bunch of new podcasts! I was getting tired of rotating through the same 10 podcasts, so I browsed the podcast app and subscribed to 10 or so more that seemed like they could be interesting. A few of them have been busts, but my favorite new podcast is The Intern. It reminds me of the StartUp podcast when it was first, well, starting up.

Eating.. avocado toast for breakfast – not only do I feel good about the nutrients my body is getting first thing in the morning, but also IT TASTES SO GOOD. It’s becoming another comforting morning routine. I make this while the water is heating for my tea – toasting the bread, mashing the guac, sprinkling the spices, drizzling the honey.. it’s a nice, quiet moment for me to center myself at the start of the day.

Smelling.. I’ve been diffusing a lot of Thieves essential oil lately, because I feel like I’m on the verge of a cold and I’m trying to stop it in it’s tracks. I also love bergamot oil – I find the citrus smell very uplifting and pleasant – so I diffuse it throughout the day and wear it in my diffuser necklace when I go out.

Thankful for.. The temperature warming up around here! It’s supposed to be in the 50’s and 60’s this weekend. After all the snow we got last weekend (eight inches! That is very unusual for our part of the country), I am thrilled. It’s like that song by Relient K, “lately the weather has been so bipolar,” was written specifically about Nashville.

I’m also thankful this week for family nap times, our friends who rescued us from our snowed-in cabin fever last weekend, delicious/comforting food, and that my parents are back in town.

What about you? What are you currently drinking, listening to, eating, smelling, and/or thankful for?

  1. So happy to be reading your blog again. How do you make your tea? I really want to incorporate more turmeric in my diet and any yummy/easy way to do it would be ideal.
    Currently I’m:
    Drinking: Herbal tea.
Listening to: So much Twenty One Pilots. All the Twenty One Pilots.
Eating: Lots of chicken and sweet potatoes. I love them.
Smelling: Lemon and Peppermint essential oils. I’m also trying to fight off a cold, but I don’t have any Thieves, so I’m going for the next best option.
Thankful for: My mom. She is so helpful.

    • It’s easy – mix honey, turmeric powder, a little black pepper, and lemon juice in the bottom of a mug and then pour hot water over it. I don’t measure anything, I just kinda eyeball it. Also – sweet potatoes are the best root veggie! So versatile and tasty 🙂 Thanks for commenting!

    • Ha! I’m listening to all of 21 Pilots too! (Is it OK to do 21 instead of Twenty One? I know Whovians would freak if I said Dr. Who)
Drinking: Copious amounts of Green Tea
      Eating: Super spicy enchiladas
      Smelling: 1st Defense Essential Oil
Thankful for: My new job. First car, here I come!

  2. Christiana (who has already commented on this) and I LOVE your blog 🙂

I am drinking: Half sweet half unsweet tea with 4 lemons from Chickfila. I work there and that is what I sip on during my shifts.

Listening to: So much Twenty One Pilots. All the Twenty One Pilots. AND Panic! at the Disco.

Eating: I lot of Chickfila honestly. Working there has only increased my love.

Smelling: Curry 🙂 My mom makes a couple of curry soups this time of year (mulligatawny and curry chick peas), and they just smell and taste amazing.

Thankful for: Christiana. She is the sweetest friend 🙂

  3. Loving your blog! I’ve never seen honey on avacado toast but that sounds amazing. Monica actually brushes her teeth with tumeric and swears by it! I may have to give this stuff a try 🙂

    • Thanks Bethany! Honey on Avo toast is DELICIOUS, you should try it. Now I’m curious about brushing the teeth with turmeric.. I’ll have to look into that.

    • I have Crohn’s too, so I know exactly what you mean. I just mix honey, turmeric powder, a little black pepper to help absorption, and lemon juice in the bottom of a mug and then pour hot water over it. Sometimes I add a ginger tea bag, or grapefruit juice. It’s pretty yummy 🙂
