Ah Ah Ah Ah Stayin’ Productive

Last week’s goals: B

1. Start Reading Again: A

IMG_7309.jpgI made it to the library on Tuesday and picked up a couple of books that have been on my list for a while. First, I read Wonder by R.J. Palacio. It was a remarkable book.. Good enough that I’m planning to buy myself a copy to own. I never do that (big believer in libraries over here).

Over the weekend, I started reading Thanks for the Feedback: The Science and Art of Receiving Feedback Well by Douglas Stone & Sheila Heen. I’m only a couple chapters in, but it’s already changing the way I think and feel about getting feedback.

I’ve heard that The Bell Jar by Sylvia Plath is a great story and wonderfully written book, but I’ve also heard it’s very depressing, so I’m giving myself permission to opt out if I find it’s too much for me.

2. Exercise 3x: B+

I only exercised twice, but I’m giving myself points for exercising with Josh once. I know I’m not the only one who would rather exercise alone, so that was a big step for me. And it was actually kinda fun!

3. No Added Sugar: F

Yep. Failed. Barely even tried. Whoops. I’m thinking I may need to adopt Kirby’s strategy of one treat per day, instead of trying to cut it out all together. That’s more manageable.

4. Practice Hand Lettering Every Day: A-

I practiced writing brush script with my new brush pens all but one day last week. I shared some photos here.

5. Prepare for Disney: A+

I had a list of about ten things that needed to happen before Josh left for Disney World, and I got them all done with time to spare!

Here are my goals for staying productive while Josh is gone, instead of wasting the whole week watching TV (believe me, that would be easy to do).

1. Exercise 3x

2. Get Out of the House (every other day at least)

I’m such a homebody that I could easily spend the entire week hanging out at the house without even realizing. In fact, the last two times that Josh was out of town, I did just that! But I don’t want to stay cooped up this time. I’ve got a couple of hangouts planned, but beyond that I can run to the grocery store or the library, just to make sure I get some fresh air/interact with other humans while Josh is gone.

3. Reorganize “Problem Areas” In The House

Everyone has that closet (or – let’s be real – closets) that is stuffed full of junk. I’d like to go through a couple of our closets and our pantry just to reorganize things and make our lives a little easier. I’m not going to stress out about getting everything reorganized, though. I’m just going to work on it a little bit every day, and whatever gets done will be a good enough improvement for me.

  1. My friend bought me Wonder last year for my birthday and I really enjoyed it. A great, sensitive and heartfelt introduction to the perspective of someone with a disability.
