Smoothie Obsession (+ An Anti-Stress Recipe)

Recently I’ve become obsessed with making smoothies. They’re a great way to “hide” healthful ingredients, and they taste amazing! My favorite thing about them is that they’re so versatile. Recipes can be helpful when you’re starting out (or are looking for specific benefits) but they aren’t even necessary; just throw whatever you want into the blender, taste, and tweak if needed. To me, there’s no such thing as a bombed smoothie, because you can almost always bring it back around with the right additions.

I know that “green smoothies” get you big healthy points on the internet, but the closest to a green smoothie I get right now is the matcha shake I shared yesterday. I just don’t like feeling like I’m drinking grass. I will throw a generous handful of greens into a sweet fruit smoothie every other day or so, but I’m not over here tryna impress Pinterest with a celery/kale/fresh lawn clippings blend. Maybe one day my palate will be sophisticated enough to handle truly green smoothies, but not today is not that day, my friends.

Healthy add-ins I use pretty much every day:

  • collagen powder
  • matcha green tea powder
  • restorative mushroom powder
  • turmeric
  • kefir
  • spinach and other greens
  • chia seeds

And in case you needed some visuals to understand my level of obsession, here’s a selection of my best #selfieswithsmoothies from the last two weeks. I have no shame.

Josh was really stressed out about work the other day, so I whipped this anti-stress smoothie up for us and it tasted REALLY GOOD. He reported feeling less stressed after drinking it, too. Success! I made him promise that he wasn’t just saying that to make me feel good, haha.

Since it tasted so yummy and worked so well, I wanted to share the ingredients with y’all (in case any of you need a little more mellow in your life).

Anti-Stress Smoothie
loosely adapted from Call Her Happy
Makes 1-2 servings (mine filled a Ball quart-jar perfectly, see bottom right photo above)

1 generous handful of mixed greens
1 cup frozen blueberries
1 cup frozen peaches
1 frozen banana
1 Tbsp chia seeds
A couple shakes of turmeric spice
4 oz tart cherry juice
~8 oz plain, unsweetened kefir (more or less depending on your thickness preference)
Any healthy add-ins you like

Blend until smooth and enjoy your newfound bliss.

  1. When you said “just throw whatever you want into the blender,” all I could hear was Josh saying “I’m gonna make it a milkshake, baby!” lol We’ve tried green smoothies too, but I’m with you. I never could get used to the flavor. Your recipe sounds pretty good, though. šŸ™‚ Might have to give it a try.

  2. This actually may be the solution to how I can begin to enjoy more veggies. I can actually DRINK fruits but not eat them (weird right – maybe it is more of a skin of the fruit thing I have issues with?) so I might do that too. Your smoothies look delicious!!!!
