Saying Goodbye

The man who did our pre-marital counseling passed away from cancer yesterday. He was also a family friend. He was a very wise man who spoke grace & truth into literally hundreds of lives. I’m very sad about the loss. I’m heartbroken for his family.

I wanted to write about him today, but I can’t find the words. I’ll say this, though: I learned a lot from him, and I wish that everybody had a chance to know a person like Dale at some point in their life. Even the “small” part he played in my life, was an important one. His teachings on grace and identity changed the way I think about faith, my relationship with God, and – honestly – myself.

I’m glad he lived, and I’m glad he’s no longer in pain.

If you pray, please pray for his family.

  1. I tweeted a response but just want to let you know that it seems that the counseling was very well done because you and Josh seem to be an amazing couple. I hope that Dale’s family feel great comfort as they try to go day to day with life and not having him there to laugh with, cry with, and joke around with.

  2. Sending love. ❤ This post really hit me because my grandfather is 92 and in the hospital–we don't expect him to make it through the week. I know that there isn't really a "right" thing to say, but know I grieve with you.
